ChatGPT vs ResuScan: Which Platform Checks Your Resume Better?

ChatGPT can rewrite a weak resume bullet, improve grammar and suggest better ways to describe work experience. But resume checking is not only about writing better sentences.

ChatGPT reviewed the resume quickly, but most of its suggestions focused on the writing. It identified grammar mistakes, lengthy sentences, awkward phrases and bullet points that could be made clearer. It also recommended stronger action verbs and suggested better ways to describe some of my responsibilities.

ChatGPT mainly noticed grammar problems, awkward phrases and a few bullets that could be written more clearly.

For example, the resume included this bullet:

Supported SEO, PPC, SEM, Google Ads, Meta Ads, keyword research, and campaign analytics across practical assignments.

The sentence contained useful keywords, but it read like a long list. ChatGPT suggested making it easier to understand by connecting the activities:

Supported SEO and paid-media assignments by researching keywords, reviewing campaign data and identifying opportunities to improve audience targeting.

It also suggested improving phrases such as:

• “Supported SEO, PPC and SEM”
• “Tracking traffic and engagement performance”
• “Used analytics insights to identify optimisation opportunities”
• “Executed integrated SEO and social media activities”

ChatGPT helped make these lines more direct and easier to scan.

ChatGPT also noticed that some sentences contained too many marketing terms together. However, it did not provide a detailed keyword report or explain how often those terms appeared across the resume.

ChatGPT was most useful when I selected one sentence and asked for a better version.

It performed well in the following areas:

• Correcting grammar
• Improving punctuation
• Shortening long sentences
• Removing awkward phrases
• Making bullets easier to read
• Suggesting stronger action verbs
• Creating two or three alternatives for one bullet
• Improving the flow of the professional summary

For example, my professional summary included a long list of areas such as SEO, SEM, Google Ads, Meta Ads, social media content, landing-page optimisation and performance analytics.

ChatGPT could shorten this and make it sound smoother. It could also help avoid repeating words such as “optimisation,” “campaign” and “marketing” too closely.

This made ChatGPT useful as a writing assistant. Once I selected a weak sentence, it could provide a cleaner version within seconds.

ChatGPT gave useful writing advice, but some small resume details received little attention or were not mentioned in the response.

In this particular test, it did not clearly explain:

• Whether the title matched the experience level
• How many times the 30% result was repeated
• Whether the skills section contained too many keywords
• Whether the bullet symbols were consistent
• Whether any bullets were joined together incorrectly
• Whether the Publications section was necessary
• Whether the Achievements section repeated earlier information
• Whether the file name was professional
• The exact page and word count
• Font and spacing consistency
• Images or icons that may affect readability

The resume presented me as a Senior Digital Marketing Executive, but the experience section only showed a digital marketing internship from July to August 2025. The project was also completed during July and August 2025.

ChatGPT did not explore this experience-level mismatch in enough detail during the test.

ChatGPT can analyse uploaded documents, but the depth of its visual review depends on the plan and file type. This does not mean that ChatGPT cannot review a resume. It means that visual issues such as unusual symbols, images, icons and layout problems may not always be reviewed completely.

For my resume, ChatGPT was useful for:

• Grammar correction
• Phrase improvement
• Sentence clarity
• Rewriting selected bullets

It was less useful for checking the resume from an ATS, formatting and document-quality perspective.

I then uploaded the same resume to ResuScan without changing the content or formatting. The result was more detailed. ResuScan did not focus only on the wording. It reviewed the resume across ATS readability, formatting, keywords, measurable achievements, sections, personal information and file details.

ResuScan identified issues that were either missed or only briefly mentioned by ChatGPT.

The title was an important concern. The resume called me a Senior Digital Marketing Executive, but the listed experience mainly consisted of a two-month internship and one project.

ResuScan also highlighted that the 30% traffic-growth achievement appeared in the professional summary, project and achievements sections. Repeating one achievement across three sections made the resume feel repetitive and left less opportunity to highlight other relevant results.

ResuScan’s biggest advantage was its attention to small resume details. It reviews areas including:
