McKinsey has a special game by the name Problem-Solving Game (PSG) which assesses a candidate on 5 dimensions:
- Critical Thinking
- Metacognition
- Decision Making
- Situational Awareness
- Systems Thinking
It's a 60-80 minutes test where you get 2 out of 4 scenarios to play.
Structure of PSG
- A computer-based assessment
- An experience similar to a video game
- About 60 minutes of total run time
- 1-3 scenarios
- 4-5 tasks within each scenario

The interview round is divided into 2/3 Rounds:
ROUND 1: Personal Experiences (PE Round)
- CASE STUDY: Business Cases focusing on problem-solving skills
- GUESSTIMATES: The interviewer is interested in finding how many different approaches you can think of to solve a case.

ROUND 2/3: Technical Round
- This round is more to check one’s technical skills majorly Excel and SQL. The interviewer starts from basic and moves to an advanced level as one keeps answering. There are two technical rounds at times based on performance. Try to excel in each.
Round 4: Partner Round
- Final Round in Mckinsey is Partner round and this interview can also stretch to 2-3 rounds further if required. Partners of the team and company generally lead this interview who wants to know about you, your capabilities, and situational behavior in 100s of scenarios in the company.

- Business Case Studies: Get familiar with some basic business terms when applying for Consultancy or analytics-based companies and prepare business case studies well
- Make some of your informed decision strategy approaches that might help you in Interviews.
- Follow Top down approach and MECE for Case solving and STAR for answering
- Go through the team which they are hiring for and the Services offered in that team. Research about their client under that team and the previous projects done by them. The projects are most given as a blog and what approach did McKinsey take and what alternative can you suggest
- Presentation is very important, so prepare your introduction well. Keep in mind what information you want to give and that should cover a bit about everything including You, Your job experience, projects undertaken, achievements and hobbies
- Solving Case Study:
- Once the interviewer has finished explaining the problem, define the Problem again so that it is on the same page.
- Understanding the problem
- Answer in a structured way, use top down or MECE Concept approach
- Give the conclusion and how did you arrive at that
- Make a strategy in the below business cases:
- Profitability: To measures to increase the profit margins
- Market entry: Calculating risk factors while entering into the new Market and strategizing the same
- Growth: Possible reasons for the revenue drop in a sector, possible reasons and solution for the same
- Pricing: At what pricing the new product to be launched and the factors considered to reduce the risk
- Product launch: Minimizing the risk in launching a new product considering the customer behavior and need. The Approach that can be followed in different sectors
- Examples of Some case study:
- Revenue Drop by 30% for a coffee shop. What could be the possible reasons and how could it be solved
- Apple wants to launch a cheaper version of iPhone. What are the risks involved?
