Position Summary

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations for real estate and construction activities, including general ledger maintenance, job costing, financial reporting, and month-end close. This role works closely with project managers, property managers, and senior accounting staff to ensure accurate financial records and compliance with company policies.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
• Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet account reconciliations
• Track and reconcile job costs for construction projects
• Record and review accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
• Support preparation of monthly financial statements and management reports
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
• Ensure proper capitalization and depreciation of fixed assets
• Support audits and provide requested documentation
• Maintain compliance with GAAP and internal accounting controls
• Collaborate with project and property management teams on financial matters

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
• 2–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate or construction
• Working knowledge of job costing and construction accounting preferred
• Strong understanding of GAAP
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Yardi, or similar)
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas)
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Experience with WIP schedules and percentage-of-completion accounting
• Exposure to property accounting (CAM reconciliations, rent rolls)
• CPA or CPA-track a plus (not required)
