Senior Accountant / Accounting Manager (Hybrid - Houston, TX)

Our client, a growing, globally connected trading and manufacturing organization, is seeking a Senior Accountant / Accounting Manager to serve as the lead accounting professional for its U.S. operations. This is a highly visible, hands-on role ideal for someone who thrives in a build-and-own environment with exposure to international operations, inventory, and US tax structures.

This position offers the opportunity to step into an ownership role and establish scalable accounting processes while partnering closely with global teams. Compensation will be dependent upon experience but has a target base salary of $100 - $140K with additional discretionary bonus.

Key Responsibilities

Full-Cycle Accounting & Reporting

• Own all day-to-day accounting operations including AP, AR, payroll, and reconciliations
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes
• Prepare financial statements (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow)
• Build and implement internal controls, policies, and scalable workflows

Inventory & Cost Accounting

• Manage inventory valuation and Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)
• Calculate landed costs (freight, tariffs, duties, customs)
• Partner with operations and warehouse teams to ensure inventory accuracy

Tax & Compliance

• Oversee federal, state, and local tax compliance (including Texas Franchise Tax and sales tax)
• Manage multi-state sales tax nexus and filings (Avalara or similar tools)
• Identify tax savings opportunities (e.g., Freeport Exemption)
• Serve as liaison with external CPA firm for tax filings and audits

Financial Planning & Cash Management

• Develop rolling cash flow forecasts
• Support budgeting, margin analysis, and cost optimization initiatives
• Partner with leadership on financial insights and decision support

Qualifications

• ~7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong background in tax (federal, state, local, sales/use, franchise)
• Experience in trading, import/export, or international operations (tariffs, VAT, customs) REQUIRED
• Exposure to manufacturing, inventory, and cost accounting
• Experience working in multi-entity or international company environments
• Prior experience as a sole accountant or hands-on senior strongly preferred
• Proficiency with ERP systems (Odoo or similar) and advanced Excel
• CPA or CPA-eligible is a plus
