Job Description

Description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

We are looking for a senior, strategic Rack Lifecycle Cluster Manager to join our Infrastructure Operations team in BOM, owning the end-to-end rack lifecycle across three clusters. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for the full continuum of rack operations — from demand forecasting and rack landing planning, through Late Binding cabling, rack installation and handoff, to end-of-life decommissioning.

You will lead a central, cross-functional team of managers and technicians, setting the strategic direction for rack lifecycle operations while driving operational excellence, process standardization, and automation at scale. You will be the single accountable owner for ensuring every rack needed for customer capacity lands on time, is cabled and installed to standard, and is decommissioned with zero compliance gaps — across all three clusters under your purview.

Your work will directly influence AWS's ability to deliver infrastructure capacity to customers reliably and at the lowest possible cost, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, security, and environmental compliance.

Key job responsibilities

  • Own the multi-cluster rack lifecycle strategy across BOM, aligning delivery roadmaps with AWS capacity plans, finance targets, and regional infrastructure goals
  • Serve as the senior escalation point and decision-maker across all rack lifecycle phases — deliveries, cabling, installation, handoff, and decommissioning — for three clusters simultaneously
  • Define and drive long-range operational plans, including workforce planning, tooling investments, and process transformation initiatives across the cluster portfolio
  • Partner with senior stakeholders across Capacity Planning, Network Engineering, DCEO, Supply Chain, and AWS Leadership to align priorities and resolve cross-functional dependencies
  • Own end-to-end inbound capacity delivery from demand forecast through physical rack landing across all three clusters, ensuring on-time delivery against committed customer capacity dates
  • Drive rack landing planning in coordination with Late Binding, PIC, and facilities teams — validating space, power, cooling, and fiber readiness ahead of each deployment wave
  • Provide strategic oversight for Late Binding cabling operations, ensuring fiber/copper cabling, patching schedules, OTDR/power testing, and labeling standards are executed to specification
  • Oversee rack installation operations across all three clusters, ensuring site readiness, rack placement, power and cooling sign-off, and network device installation are completed per standards
  • Ensure clean, documented handoffs to Data Center Operations teams, including updated CMDB/DCIM records, port maps, test results, and completed workflow sign-offs
  • Own the decommissioning pipeline for end-of-life racks, coordinating with Capacity Planning, Network Operations, DCLM/ALM, and MARS teams to schedule graceful shutdowns with zero service impact
  • Ensure full EHS and MOP compliance across all physical decommission activities
  • Define, track, and report on cluster-level KPIs including racks landed vs. plan, Late Binding cabling completion %, capacity ready dates, and decom backlog vs. flightpath goal
  • Lead WBR and Kingpin reporting for the BOM cluster portfolio
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a multi-layered team of managers and data center technicians across three clusters, fostering a high-performance, inclusive, and safety-first culture
  • Own workforce planning, staffing, and talent development including recruiting, onboarding, training, and performance management

A day in the life

As the Rack Lifecycle Cluster Manager for BOM, no two days are the same. You might start your morning reviewing a multi-cluster capacity delivery dashboard, identifying a supply chain risk for an upcoming rack wave, and aligning with your managers on mitigation actions. By midday, you could be in a cross-functional war room with Capacity Planning and Network Engineering to unblock a stalled rack installation, or reviewing decom flightpath trends ahead of a WBR. In the afternoon, you might be coaching a manager on stakeholder communication, reviewing a new SOP for Late Binding cabling standards, or presenting cluster performance metrics to senior AWS leadership. Your role is equal parts strategic and operational — you set the direction, remove the barriers, and develop the people who execute at the ground level.
