Set Builders are responsible for building room scenes based on creative direction from the Set Designer. In collaboration with the Set Designer they build, create, organize and maintain sets during a photo shoot.
A day in the life as a Set Builder...
- Manufacture, build, and set up scenes for photography.
- Analyze light sources, camera angle, and permanent structures to situate sets properly.
- Ensure sets are properly broken down to save, repurpose, or dispose.
- Utilize work orders and verbal directions to communicate with the scenic team.
- Complete overhead rigging of merchandise set pieces and lighting.
- Solve complex rigging and special effects challenges.
- Use woodworking power tools to fabricate set pieces.
- Painting, carpentry, basic electrical duties.
- Clean, maintain, and organize sets to ensure a safe work environment.
- Shop for materials needed for set designs.
- Support location shoots as needed.

- Experience Required
- 2+ years photo shoot experience
- 2+ years woodworking/shop experience or construction
- Practical operational experience with general hand and power tools used in carpentry and light construction
- Architecture/art/fabrication training a plus
