POSITION SCOPE:
The Director of Regional Operations, under the leadership of the VP / General Manager, has the ultimate accountability for all operational execution as assigned by the VP. In this role, the Director of Regional Strategy will have oversight over multi-site terminal operations and for exceeding customer expectations in service for an account and/or regional customer base as assigned by the VP. The Director of Regional Strategy has responsibility for managing KPI's, Safety, and Customer Service for the assigned area of responsibility.
Also, in this role the Director of Regional Strategy will be responsible for mentoring and educating managers to develop clear succession planning for the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and manage expectations of team resources to exceed financial, operational & leadership goals and objectives.
- Ensure business remains focused on customer requirements and operational performance, and the talent to support this ongoing effort is in place.
- Influence customers to identify/assess opportunities, negotiate contracts/rates and partner with Development Teams to maximize opportunistic business pursuits.
- Serve as a point of contact for the VP / General Manager as they assign operational concerns for the Customer(s), reinforcing clarity and continuity.
- Work on customer projects to root cause and solve customer specific issues.
- Managing the business, ensuring contracts and renewal negotiations are modelled correctly can be executed and are profitable
- Employ operational process leadership role, where appropriate.
- Partner with Linehaul to address any service failures with a plan to support improvement.
- Work with the local service centers to provide a root cause analysis and plan for improvement on local service failures.
- Visit sites to ensure presence and coverage, apply similar discipline and SOPs, as assigned by the VP / General Manager.
- Ensure that the region is properly staffed through labor planning strategies
- Responsible for key manager development-succession planning.
- Ensure corporate policy and regulatory initiatives toward associates are consistently applied.
- Drive corporate initiatives to make certain they are consistently applied.
- Ensure the transfer of best practices throughout the area of responsibility.
- Achieve agreed budget, revenue, profit (P&L) for the area of responsibility.
- Ensure compliance with all accounting, operational, regulatory and administrative policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with Process Improvement to manage Trend and Impact analysis of service levels to ensure that performance metrics meet customer and (Balanced Scorecard) contractual requirements
- Participate and or lead the performance management and planning of regional leadership initiatives to include space, equipment, labor, safety, quality, systems, etc.
- Ensure resource management / equipment planning processes are properly defined, deployed and measured.
- Drive an operational performance agenda with a focus on KPI, Safety, Quality and Service
- Projects as assigned.
- Conduct warehouse inventory to reconcile inventory to accurate levels.
- Assist other regions when necessary to support company initiatives.
- Fill in for the VP / General Manager when necessary.
PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EDUCATION:
- Ability to travel extensively - 75%
- Minimum of 5 years related warehouse management, preferably in 3PL, Distribution or LTL Operations.
- At least 7-10 years of Transportation industry experience overall required
- Management or project management experience preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Transportation Logistics, Business, Operations, Finance, Inventory Control, or related area, or equivalent education and work experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency using P.C. spreadsheet, word processing and database management applications (e.g., MS Access, Excel and Word). Ability to write system queries and pull reports for analysis.
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated analytical, business planning and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify issues, requirements and opportunities for improvement.
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Ability to travel at least 50% of the time.
