The Senior Refined Products Trader is responsible for expanding the organization's presence in the U.S. distillates market, with a primary focus on diesel. This role manages a trading book and P&L within defined risk limits, executes domestic and international trading strategies, and contributes to the growth of the broader refined products portfolio through collaboration with global trading teams.
Key Responsibilities
Trading & Market Execution
- Develop and manage a refined products trading book with direct P&L responsibility, operating within approved risk parameters.
- Trade U.S. domestic and international distillates, with a strong emphasis on diesel, export flows, and arbitrage opportunities.
- Identify, structure, negotiate, and execute physical and derivative transactions in refined products markets.
- Coordinate hedging strategies to optimize exposure to term structure, basis movements, and export arbitrage.
Market Analysis & Strategy
- Analyze market fundamentals including supply, demand, pricing mechanisms, blending economics, logistics, and regulatory considerations.
- Monitor portfolio risk and mark-to-market valuations; proactively manage exposures.
- Contribute to the development and execution of the overall refined products trading strategy in coordination with senior management.
Commercial & Relationship Management
- Build and maintain a strong network of counterparties, brokers, and commercial partners across the Americas.
- Develop long-term commercial relationships and negotiate term agreements in line with company guidelines.
- Collaborate with internal teams to share market intelligence and develop cross-book trading opportunities.
Operational Coordination & Controls
- Work closely with Operations, Logistics, Middle Office, Back Office, Credit, and Risk teams to ensure efficient trade execution and settlement.
- Communicate executed trades accurately and in a timely manner through internal systems and required reporting channels.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, contractual terms, Incoterms, pipeline specifications, exchange rules, and applicable regulations.
- Adhere strictly to credit policies, risk limits, and internal control procedures.

Required Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, or a related quantitative discipline.
Experience
- Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience trading refined products, with a strong focus on distillates/diesel.
- Demonstrated expertise in U.S. physical markets, export arbitrage, and derivative/hedging instruments.
Technical & Professional Skills
- Strong understanding of refined products market fundamentals, logistics, and contractual terms.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Proven ability to develop and execute profitable trading strategies based on rigorous market analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet tight deadlines.
- High attention to detail with minimal error tolerance.
