We are seeking a detail-oriented Property Accountant to join our growing team. This role will be responsible for completing monthly financial statements and supporting the accounting operations for a portfolio of apartment communities. The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of general ledger accounting experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with both operations and ownership groups.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Complete accurate and timely month-end close activities for a portfolio of 15-20 apartment communities.
• Prepare monthly journal entries, accruals, and deferrals to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Analyze financial statements, including budget-to-actual comparisons, 12-month trailing reports, balance sheets, and income statements to ensure accuracy and identify trends.
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations and balance sheet account reconciliations.
• Research, analyze, and explain financial statement variances to management.
• Communicate regularly with property managers and regional managers regarding financial performance, accounting issues, and operational impacts.
• Monitor cash balances and analyze cash needs for assigned properties.
• Review accounts payable activity and assist with payment approvals as needed.
• Assist with annual property tax payments and related reporting requirements.
• Maintain accurate general ledger records and support compliance with company accounting policies.
• Support annual audits and provide requested financial documentation.
• Complete special projects and other accounting assignments as needed.

Experience

• 2-3 years of relevant general ledger accounting experience.
• Understanding of accrual accounting, account reconciliations, and cash management.
• Property management or real estate accounting experience preferred.
• Experience communicating financial information to non-accounting professionals preferred.
