Property Accountant

About the Role

Our client is seeking a detail‑oriented Property Accountant to manage the financial reporting and accounting functions for a portfolio of commercial properties. This role will oversee property‑level financial activity, ensure accurate reporting, and collaborate closely with property management and operations teams. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and experienced in real estate or property‑level accounting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries for property‑level transactions in accordance with GAAP.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for assigned properties.
  • Complete bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analyses.
  • Prepare property financial statements, operating reports, and supporting schedules.
  • Review AP/AR activity including tenant billings, rent rolls, CAM reconciliations, and payments.
  • Collaborate with property managers on budgets, forecasting, and expense tracking.
  • Support annual audits, lender reporting, and tax package preparation.
  • Assist in maintaining and strengthening internal controls and accounting procedures.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • 2–4+ years of accounting experience, ideally in property management or real estate.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and property‑level accounting practices.
  • Experience with property management/accounting software (Yardi, MRI, RealPage, etc.) preferred.
  • Strong Excel and financial analysis skills.
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and communication abilities.
