Job Description

Position: 2nd Shift Operations Superintendent

Position Type: Direct Hire

Location: Chicago, IL

Pay: Up to $105,000

Shift: Sunday – Thursday | 6:00 PM – 4:30 AM

Schedule: Full-Time, Salaried (OT eligible when covering supervisor duties)

Position Summary:

Seeking a hands-on 2nd Shift Operations Superintendent responsible for overseeing shift supervisors and production operations to achieve optimal levels of safety, quality, productivity, and delivery, ensuring internal and external customer satisfaction. This role provides leadership and training to support company goals and objectives. This position is part of the Operations team and reports to the Operations Manager.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Oversee 2nd shift operations and shift supervisors to ensure safety, quality, productivity, and delivery targets are met.
  • Monitor plant performance and key production KPIs.
  • Support shop floor organization, safety, and standard work compliance.
  • Coach and support Shift Supervisors in daily operations and performance.
  • Identify operational issues, troubleshoot problems, and escalate when needed.
  • Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Assist with contingency plans during downtime and production disruptions.
  • Drive employee engagement and maintain a positive, accountable work environment.
  • Ensure customer requirements and production schedules are met consistently.


Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5+ years of supervisory or leadership experience in manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Strong industrial background preferred, automotive or metal assembly experience a plus.
  • Experience coaching and developing frontline leaders or supervisors.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in a KPI-driven, fast-paced production environment.
  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • ERP system experience preferred (SAP or QAD), UKG experience a plus.
  • Comfortable managing performance conversations and disciplinary situations.
  • Experience managing changing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional or multi-disciplinary teams to meet production goals and customer deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing safety requirements and production performance metrics.
