We are partnering with a publicly traded real estate investment company specializing in industrial properties to identify an Assistant Real Estate Counsel to join its Chicago‑based legal team. This role will support a national portfolio with a primary focus on commercial leasing and will work closely with internal leasing, asset management, and property management teams.

Position Overview

The Assistant Real Estate Counsel will provide legal support across a large commercial real estate portfolio, with an emphasis on drafting, reviewing, and negotiating lease documentation and related real estate agreements. This role will also support portfolio operations, transactions, and general real estate matters.

Key Responsibilities

Leasing

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial lease agreements, including new leases, renewals, expansions, amendments, and related agreements
• Partner with leasing and asset management teams to structure lease terms and prepare documentation
• Interpret lease provisions and advise internal stakeholders on administration and enforcement
• Assist with lease‑related defaults, remedies, and disputes, coordinating with outside counsel as needed
• Maintain and update standard lease and agreement templates

Portfolio Operations Support

• Provide day‑to‑day legal support to property and operational teams
• Review vendor, service, and property‑level agreements
• Assist with easements, operating agreements, and other property‑related documents
• Support review of title and title‑related materials

Other Matters

• Support acquisitions and dispositions, including contract and lease review for due diligence
• Assist with managing legal personnel and internal legal team training
• Prepare summaries and internal reporting
• Support and manage outside counsel
• Handle additional matters as assigned
