Data Scientist (Entry-Level, AI Focus)

Contract-to-hire - $28/hr
Brooksource is looking for an entry-level Data Scientist/AI Developer to join our public sector client and support a growing portfolio of AI and data-driven initiatives across multiple teams. These roles are ideal for individuals early in their careers who are passionate about data science and excited to gain hands-on experience working on real-world AI use cases.
What You’ll Do:
- Support AI and data science initiatives by contributing to machine learning models and analytical solutions
- Assist in building AI-driven tools such as chatbots, document processing solutions, and automated reporting workflows
- Work with structured and unstructured data, including extracting and processing information from documents (e.g., PDFs, scanned files)
- Write and maintain Python and SQL code to support data processing, modeling, and automation
- Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and business teams to translate requirements into technical solutions
- Contribute to projects involving document intelligence, language models, and classification/prediction models
- Support development efforts that integrate data science with software engineering (APIs, internal tools, workflows)
- Work with modern data platforms such as Snowflake and cloud-based environments
- Participate in team discussions, standups, and knowledge sharing to understand systems and business use cases
- Take initiative in learning new tools, asking questions, and contributing to solutions over time
Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience with Python (coursework, projects, or internships) required
- Experience with SQL
- Basic understanding of data science concepts (data analysis, modeling, or machine learning fundamentals)
- Familiarity with Git or version control is a plus
- Interest in working with AI, machine learning, and real-world data problems
- Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, etc.) or data tools like Snowflake is a plus
- Experience or interest in working with APIs, automation, or software development concepts is helpful
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Highly curious, self-motivated, and eager to learn
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate in a team environment
Preferred Backgrounds:
- Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related fields
- Open to a variety of technical or analytical backgrounds with demonstrated interest in data science or AI
- Candidates who have completed personal projects, internships, or independent learning in data science or machine learning stand out
