Brief Description

Join the Philanthropy team at the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Philanthropy Intern will assist the VP of Community Philanthropy on-site with all aspects of donor management, including our donor database, assisting with marketing and communication plans, and developing program alumni engagement plans. The intern will gain valuable experience while learning the job and building their resume. This position requires a high degree of flexibility and a broad interest in all areas of marketing and communications.

This ten-week internship was made possible through a grant from Texas A&M University - Bush School of Government & Public Service. The internship will take place in Greater Houston area.

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates behaviors and actions consistent with YMCA core values and mission.
  • Performs duties and responsibilities as outlined for the specific assignment.
  • Participates in training and application of skills necessary to perform assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Communicates with identified internship supervisor reporting on progress, making recommendations, preparing reports, etc.
  • Obtains feedback from the internship supervisor to enhance skill development.
  • Develops relationships with center staff and volunteers.

Area of Focus:

  • Help review and organize the Endowment data and file.
  • Assist with Raiser's Edge NXT CRM database.
  • Contribute to the creation of email and social media messaging along with other case for support materials.
  • Support fundraising functions and assist the office generally in donor engagement and stewardship.
  • Be involved in meetings both internal and external.

Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled as a graduate student who will return to college in the fall of 2026.
  • Current enrollment in graduate course for public service and administration, nonprofit management, or a related field.
  • Basic computer proficiency with Microsoft Office suite: Raiser's Edge NXT CRM database.
  • Good understanding of the latest philanthropy trends and techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Commitment to fulfill scheduled hours to accomplish assigned duties and tasks.
  • Wiliness to learn and ask questions to enhance the development process.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hours/week: 40 hours per week.
  • Duration: May -August
  • $5,000 paid at the end of the internship
  • Free YMCA Membership
