- W2 salary of $100,000 annually, paid weekly; health, dental, and vision coverage starts on day one
- On-site position at an Alpha K-8 school in Denver, CO; Atlanta, GA; Oklahoma City, OK; Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, TX; Brownsville, TX; Fort Worth, TX; Houston, TX (Central, South, or The Woodlands); Park City, UT (Salt Lake City metro); or Toronto, Canada (relocation assistance available)
This is not a teaching role. This is a motivation role.
The most powerful support you can offer a student who reached 99% of their target is to refuse to accept it as complete. If that principle feels uncomfortable, this role is not for you. If it resonates because you understand that maintaining high expectations is how you communicate belief in a student's capability, read on.
Alpha students complete their academic work through AI-driven applications. There are no lectures. No textbooks. Half of your day is spent facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions covering topics like public speaking, focus, and constructive feedback. The other half involves working one-on-one or in small groups with students, analyzing their progress via Coachbot analytics, and driving each one toward 100% completion of weekly app targets. You will not follow a rigid script—workshops provide a foundation, but top performers in this role customize them and create new content when needed.
Success in a quarter means every student in your cohort completes their weekly app goals, passes the Test2Pass for all life-skills workshops, and 90%+ report that they value you. Falling short on any of these three measures means the job is not being done. In your first year, you will internalize the system; as you demonstrate your ability to maintain standards, advancement to Lead Guide becomes possible, where you mentor new hires while continuing direct work with students.
If you prefer traditional classroom teaching, need pre-built curriculum, or view warmth and rigor as incompatible, this position will not suit you. If your background includes athletic coaching, camp counseling, tutoring where you refused to let students give up, or performing for groups of young children, the final stage before receiving an offer is a full day on campus working with actual Alpha students. If that opportunity excites you most, submit your application today.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions for K-8 groups on subjects including public speaking, focus, feedback, and other transferable skills, modifying the framework and creating new sessions when you identify a need
- Conducting daily one-on-one and small-group sessions designed to drive every student to 100% completion of their weekly app targets, leveraging Coachbot data, Alpha's motivational systems (school currency, leaderboards), and individual relationships to overcome resistance
- Delivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's mastery-based evaluation) for each life skill, then coaching students who fall short until they achieve mastery
- Adjusting your approach across a broad developmental spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring high energy and physical activity to eighth graders needing direct conversation and personal accountability
- Serving as the adult who maintains standards and the adult students trust and want to engage with; warmth creates the foundation for challenge, and challenge communicates your belief in their potential
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Delivering instruction at a whiteboard; academic content is embedded in the apps, not delivered by you
- Creating curriculum from the ground up; you animate an established framework with energy and narrative skill
- Monitoring students passively while they use computers; motivation in this role is active, individualized, and persistent
- Reducing a weekly target to make it easier for a student to reach; when a student is behind, the solution is supporting the student, not adjusting the goal
- Grading assignments, running test preparation sessions, or handling parent outreach; Campus Leads manage parent engagement, and the other tasks are not part of this model
Associate Key Responsibilities
Drive every student in your K-8 cohort to complete their weekly learning targets, achieve mastery in each life skill, and finish the year reporting that they valued their experience with you.
Basic Requirements
- Able to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Denver, CO; Atlanta, GA; Oklahoma City, OK; Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, TX; Brownsville, TX; Fort Worth, TX; Houston, TX (Central, South, or The Woodlands); Park City, UT; or Toronto, Canada (relocation assistance provided)
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
- Minimum of 3 years of direct work with K-8 students (including classroom teaching, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program leadership)
- A concrete example you can articulate of motivating a K-8 student toward a challenging goal: the goal itself, your actions, and the result
- Comfort with AI delivering instructional content while you concentrate on motivation and life-skills development
- Regular use of generative AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
- Authorization to work in the US without requiring visa sponsorship (or in Canada for the Toronto location)
Nice-to-have Requirements
- Background in youth sports coaching, debate, camp leadership, theater, or after-school programming where you held direct accountability for motivating students toward measurable outcomes
- History of personal achievement (academic, athletic, or professional) that makes holding others to high standards natural rather than performative
- Communication and presence capable of engaging a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without needing to raise your voice
- Demonstrated success converting disengaged or reluctant students into motivated contributors
