Junior AI Software Engineer

Brief Description:

The Software Engineer for the Technology Innovation Group will work as part of the larger team to design, develop, and implement AI-enabled solutions across Technology and the broader enterprise. This role partners with engineers, data scientists, product teams, and business stakeholders to help translate business needs into AI capabilities and deliver production quality solutions.


Detailed Description:

This role is an entry level position requiring the individual to be driven, well-organized and curious. They must be self-motivated and thrive in uncertain and evolving environments, adapt quickly, and be eager to learn. This unique program will allow participants to build foundational skills in AI engineering and practical implementation – supporting experimentation, contributing to solution development, and learning how to deliver AI responsibly in a highly regulated environment.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in implementing AI features and services that solve business and technology problems.
  • Help translate business and functional requirements into technical tasks and deliverables for AI solutions.
  • Contribute to building and integrating AI components into applications using production-ready coding practices (APIs, services, integrations, and automation).
  • Support model deployment and integration efforts by partnering with business and technical teams to move solutions from prototype to production.
  • Learn the process for deploying and maintaining AI models, including build/release routines and automation opportunities.
  • Assist with debugging, troubleshooting, and resolving issues in AI solutions to maintain performance and stability.
  • Participate in Agile and delivery team routines (standups, planning, demos) and provide clear status updates.
  • Produce and maintain documentation (implementation notes, runbooks, model/service documentation, user enablement content).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Technology partners and other stakeholders to gather inputs and support delivery.
  • Learn and follow established governance, risk and control expectations for AI solutions, including considerations to safe deployment practices.
  • Support implementation practices that align with the organization’s focus on risk mitigation when adopting AI and GenAI technologies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

  • 0 to 2 years programming experience with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent transferable experience through coursework, internships, or work experience.


Required Skills:

  • A passion for learning and exploring new technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an openness to tackling new and unfamiliar challenges.
  • Working knowledge of at least one programming language such as Java, React, Python, etc.
  • Basic understanding of APIs, data structures, and software development fundamentals; familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows.
  • Foundational understanding of data concepts (e.g, SQL, relational and nonrelational databases).
  • Strong business and technology aptitude with the ability to learn processes and procedures quickly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications and the ability to work in a collaborative setting (in-person and virtual).
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable code and learn to translate AI concepts into production-level implementations.
  • Ability to support testing, deployment, and troubleshooting efforts in partnership with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong learning agility; curiosity and aptitude to learn new tools, platforms, and methodologies.
  • Highly motivated with strong organizational, analytical, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to build credibility and strong partnerships while working collaboratively within the team and across the organization.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks, determine priorities, and execute in a high-pressure environment.


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working in an Agile delivery environment.
  • Familiarity with risk-aware implementation practices in regulated environments and an interest in Regulated AI.
  • Understanding of or interest in how AI solutions are operationalized (deployment patterns, automation opportunities, monitoring and stability).
  • Understanding that AI/Gen AI rollout requires strong risk mitigation practices, policy alignment, and controls in a financial institution.
  • Understanding of continuous integration and continuous development.
