Assistant Maintenance Manager


Position Overview

The Assistant Maintenance Manager supports and oversees daily maintenance operations, including the repair, installation, and upkeep of facilities, machinery, and equipment. This role partners closely with the Maintenance Manager to ensure operational efficiency, safety, and minimal downtime across the organization while leading and developing the maintenance and facilities team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and directing all maintenance activities, including preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing maintenance KPIs and using data to optimize performance and reduce downtime.
  • Assist with development and management of maintenance budgets, cost control, and timely procurement of spare parts and materials.
  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering, EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety), and Production teams to align maintenance objectives with operational goals.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized department with a strong safety culture and positive team morale.
  • Utilize CMMS systems to track work orders, asset history, inventory, and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Obtain and evaluate multiple vendor quotes for contracts and large-dollar maintenance or facility projects.
  • Support spare parts and manufacturing supplies inventory management within the maintenance crib.
  • Assist with emergency response activities and support duties of the Emergency Coordinator.
  • Schedule, support, and ensure completion of facility repairs, upgrades, and improvement projects.
  • Supervise housekeeping services and assist with weather-related preparedness procedures.
  • Maintain facility exterior appearance including landscaping and parking areas.
  • Schedule and monitor inspections, testing, and compliance activities for local and state permits.
  • Support team development through skill assessments and internal/external training initiatives.


Qualifications

  • Four-year college degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment with leadership or lead-level responsibility; Tier 1 automotive experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial maintenance systems including electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, robotics, PLCs, and fabrication.
  • Proven problem-solving, decision-making, and prioritization skills in fast-paced manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to evaluate cost-benefit considerations for maintenance projects and repairs.
  • Hands-on mindset with strong documentation, communication, and leadership skills.
