Role: Mainframe Developer
Years of Experience: 6-8 years
Location: Chennai/ Pune/ Mumbai
Job Description:-
Job Requirements*
1. Strong hands-on experience in IBM z/OS mainframe application development and support.
2. Proficiency in COBOL (batch and/or online) including VSAM and file handling concepts.
3. Strong experience in JCL, job streams, scheduling, restart/recovery, and core utilities (SORT, IDCAMS, IEBGENER, etc.).
4. Database skills in DB2 (SQL, bind/package, performance basics) or IMS-DB (DL/I, PSB/PCB concepts).
5. Online transaction processing experience in CICS (BMS, COMMAREA, channels/containers, syncpoints) or IMS-DC.
6. Hands-on debugging and incident resolution using dumps, abend codes, JES spool/output, and application logs.
7. Good understanding of SDLC, change/release processes, and documentation practices; exposure to Agile delivery is a plus.
8. Ability to communicate clearly with business and technology stakeholders, write clear impact analysis, and support knowledge transfer.
Key Responsibilities*
1. Design, develop, enhance and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL and related utilities.
2. Develop and support online transactions/services using CICS (or IMS-DC) and ensure performance, resiliency and recoverability.
3. Write and optimize DB2 SQL (or IMS DL/I) and perform unit testing, integration testing, and data validation.
4. Perform production support activities including incident triage, abend analysis, root cause analysis, and defect fixes within SLA.
5. Work closely with analysts, testers, and operations teams for requirements clarification, impact analysis, and release deployment.
6. Ensure code quality through standards, peer reviews, documentation, and continuous improvement of batch/online processing.
7. Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to mainframe standards (naming, copybooks, error handling, restartability).
8. Provide timely status updates, maintain runbooks/operational documentation, and support knowledge transfer within the team.
