Role Purpose
We are seeking a motivated and skilled lawyer to join our legal team as Legal Counsel. The Legal Counsel will primarily support Travelexs business in Australia and Zealand while based in Mumbai, providing day-to-day legal, contract and leasing management and company secretarial support. The role supports successful legal operations delivery, with a strong emphasis on contract and lease review, contract lifecycle management and administration, and governance support primarily across ANZ operations but also Travelexs business in India and globally.
Key Accountabilities
Contract & Lease Review and Management: Draft, review, negotiate and manage a wide range of agreements including NDAs, service agreements, IT agreements, supplier terms, wholesale banknote agreements, lease agreements, distribution agreements and airport concession contracts. Maintain ownership of contract and lease lifecycle processes including execution, tracking, renewals and administration.
Legal Support & Advice: Provide timely, practical and commercially focused legal advice to support ANZ operations including retail, wholesale and support functions. Conduct legal research as required.
Documentation & Legal Operations: Maintain well-organised legal documentation, contract repositories and correspondence. Manage legal trackers, material contacts register, and ensure documents are accessible, accurate and up to date.
Compliance & Governance: Support with applicable legal and regulatory requirements and assist with governance and company secretarial work where required.
Marketing: Advising on and reviewing marketing and online collateral and PR content.
Debt collection: Assisting the business with letters of demand, debt collections and related tracking.
Litigation & Reporting Support: Support litigation management including preparation of reports, responding to audit queries and maintaining registers of external counsel and legal matters.
Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a point of contact for ANZ stakeholders and collaborate with global legal teams. Support the business with contract interpretation, answering queries and providing updates.
Legal Research & Risk Management: Conduct research on legal and regulatory developments and support identification, assessment and management of legal and commercial risks.
Knowledge Management & Continuous Improvement: Develop and maintain templates, precedents and training materials and contribute to continuous improvement of legal processes and frameworks.
Team Support: Provide support and informal guidance to junior team members and contribute to overall team capability and knowledge sharing.

Experience & Qualifications
- Law degree from a recognised university with 6+ years’ relevant legal experience, preferably in both private practice and inhouse.
- Experience in lease review, contract review, legal drafting, and preferably also in contract and lease management.
- Experience in some or all of the following would be desirable: Retail Leasing, Financial Products and Services, Corporations Law, Consumer Law, Ecommerce and Digital.
- Exposure to multi-jurisdictional legal work (ANZ and common law jurisdictions preferred).
- Experience supporting legal operations, reporting and document management processes is advantageous.
