About The Role

The Global Category Manager – Electrical & Automation is responsible for developing and executing global category strategies for electrical, instrumentation, and automation-related spend across multiple regions, including China, India, Europe, and the Americas. This role drives cost optimization, supply continuity, supplier innovation, and risk management while ensuring alignment with regional business needs and global procurement objectives.

Based in India, the role works closely with regional procurement teams, engineering, operations, and suppliers to manage a complex, multi-regional supply base supporting manufacturing, capital projects, and MRO requirement

Your Responsibilities

Category Strategy & Governance

  • Develop and implement global category strategies for electrical and automation commodities (e.g., PLCs, DCS, MCCs, VFDs, sensors, panels, cabling, instrumentation).
  • Align global strategies with regional requirements across China, India, EU, and the Americas.
  • Define preferred supplier lists, sourcing policies, and governance models.
  • Lead category planning, demand aggregation, and long-term sourcing roadmaps.

Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management

  • Lead global and regional sourcing initiatives, including RFPs, RFQs, negotiations, and supplier selection.
  • Establish and manage strategic supplier partnerships, including global framework agreements.
  • Drive total cost of ownership (TCO) reductions through pricing, specification optimization, localization, and lifecycle management.
  • Manage supplier performance, KPIs, scorecards, and continuous improvement plans.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Engineering, Automation, Operations, Maintenance, Capital Projects, and Quality teams.
  • Ensure alignment between global category strategies and local operational needs.
  • Support new product introductions, plant expansions, and automation upgrades.

Cost, Risk & Compliance Management

  • Deliver year-over-year cost savings, productivity improvements, and value creation.
  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks (capacity, geopolitical, regulatory, single-source exposure).
  • Ensure compliance with internal procurement policies, ethical sourcing standards, and applicable trade regulations.
  • Support supplier ESG, sustainability, and compliance initiatives where applicable.

Market Intelligence & Innovation

  • Monitor global market trends, technology advancements, and supplier innovations in electrical and automation.
  • Benchmark pricing, commercial models, and supplier capabilities across regions.
  • Enable innovation through early supplier involvement and collaboration.

You bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Electronics, Industrial Engineering, or Supply Chain
  • 8–12+ years of experience in strategic sourcing or category management
  • Strong background in electrical and automation commodities in an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Proven experience managing global or multi-regional categories
  • Demonstrated success in global negotiations and supplier relationship management
  • Strong understanding of automation architectures and electrical systems
  • Expertise in global sourcing, contract negotiation, and TCO analysis
  • Experience working with global ERP and sourcing tools (e.g., SAP, Ariba, Coupa)
  • Solid financial acumen and analytical skills
  • Ability to influence stakeholders across regions and cultures
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strategic mindset with hands-on execution capability
  • Comfortable operating in a matrixed, global organization

Travel Requirements

  • Willingness to travel internationally as required (Typically 40–50%, depending on project and supplier engagement needs)
